The UPS (uninterruptible power supply) plays a vital role in "intelligent" buildings, airports, hospitals and other facilities in which even momentary power outages or voltage and current fluctuations could be disastrous. Tokuden transformers used in UPS inverters maintain stable voltage and current at all times by keeping@excitation surge current (significant in-rush current)to a minimum. Also offering such advantages as virtually noise-free@performance,these transformers are available in compact, spacesaving sizes that fit any installation site.

Inverters made by Tokuden are widely used for speed control in trains and for temperature control in railway car heating and cooling systems. Our reactors for railway cars ensure a supply of smooth AC waveforms to motors and other equipment by adjusting the alternating current generated by the inverter. These units also protect circuits by maintaining ideal electrical conditions at all times. Since the reactors are typically installed in railway car floors or ceilings, our design emphasizes resistance to vibration, Wind, rain and impact from foreign objects such as pebbles. These reliable products see use in the new linear motor cars and other railway cars throughout Japan's extensive rail and public transport system.

In elevators, inverters control motor revolutions to provide the levels of acceleration and deceleration that passengers find the most comfortable. Tokuden reactors, which are linked to inverters, supply distortion free electricity. The use of round wound cores ensures the presence of all inductance characteristics, and keeps both vibration and noise to a minimum. Today, Tokuden accounts for some 90 percent of the reactors used in Japan's elevators, where they help provide higher speeds and greater comfort.

Tokuden technology is also at work in transformers for the huge motors found in facilities such as water purification plants. In water purification plants, the speed and revolution of the agitator is regulated according to the condition of the activated sludge. The system is carefully controlled to operate at the highest possible capacity at all times. Transformers, made by Tokuden, supply the ideal amount of high-quality power to drive the huge motors at these plants, helping improve efficiency and save energy.

Transformers for glass blast furnaces
In a glass blast furnace, current is passed through glass sphere clusters, causing the clusters to melt. Glass fiber is then formed when the molten glass is passed through fine holes. During the melting process, the transformers in these facilities supply large amounts of current to the furnace's electrodes. These transformers must be resilient enough, both electrically and mechanically, to avoid breakdowns in the event of severe electrical fluctuations.
ESR (Electro slag-remelting) furnace systems
An ESR furnace is an ore furnace used by steel manufacturers to melt and refine metals using the resistance heat from molten slag. To melt the slag, these devices need to have a power supply system that controls highly unstable, low-voltage current on the order of 10,000 to 30,000 amperes. Tokuden builds highly reliable systems that use saturable reactors to control the current.
Total power supply systems
Tokuden offers comprehensive packages that include incoming panels, reactors, control panels, controllers and other electrical devices for largescale power supply circuitly. We can also assist with the design and production of total systems. Tokuden's expertise in special power supply technologies, plus a system that's geared toward customized production, helps us provide you with the most suitable system in the shortest time.
